Styles: Rock

My own introduction to playing rock was via the guitar heroes of the late 60's/early 70's, people like Clapton, Page, Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter etc. Actually for the rock beginner so-called "classic rock" is still a pretty good place to start, as many such songs and riffs fall firmly into the "simple but effective" category.

Options widen once some basic technique is established, and more experienced players can tackle a wide range of styles from indie to heavy metal, punk to prog, classic solo transcriptions to the development of improvisation skills - a knowledge of various scales and modes will help here, and I can help you to explore and develop this aspect of your playing.

Students are encouraged to bring in recordings (CD or MP3 format): where practicable I will transcribe the material for study. In fact I rely on my students to keep me abreast of recent developments and new figures on the music scene!
